Lower Fuel Prices Not Reflected In Farmers' Diesel Costs

The out-going Chair of the District 8 Grain Farmers of Ontario says he expected the drop in fuel costs to help farmers.

But Joe Vermunt says the lower prices haven't really been reflected in diesel fuel, so he doesn't know what the impact will eventually be.

Vermunt is also concerned about the possibility of a carbon tax gas that the province is condidering.

He believes the province is considering implementing that now while the price of gas is low so people won't notice it.

Vermunt adds the lower Canadian dollars helps farmers who are exporting to the U-S but he also points out it drives up the cost of any equipment or other goods that farmers bring in from the United States.
