CFIB: Red Tape Adding Stress To Farmers Lives

A new survey suggests farmers are facing more stress from government red tape than other Canadian businesses.

The survey was done by the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses.

It gauges the impact of red tape on all CFIB members, including farmers.

The results include 86 per cent of the Federation's farmer members saying excessive regulations add significant stress to their lives.

That compares to 78 per cent of overall CFIB responses.

63 per cent of the farmer respondents report some delays caused by regulations during the past three years.

56 per cent of the group's overall members reported some delays.

Federation vice-president Marilyn Braun-Pollon says what makes matters worse is that farmers feel the red tape burden is getting worse.

35 per cent of the CFIB's farmer members say they would not advise their children to start a business because of the current burden of regulation.
