NFU Ontario Supports Provincial 'Precautionary' Bee Health Approach

The National Farmers Union Ontario supports the provincial government's pollinator health proposals.

Ontario President Karen Eatwell says the NFU advocates for economically, socially and environmentally sustainable agricultural practices.

She says that includes supporting the targeted use of neonic treated corn and soybean seeds to those acres where the need can be demonstrated.

Eatwell admits there are challenges to that approach, but says the NFU submission to the government includes practical recommendations on how to overcome those challenges.

NFU Vice President of Policy, Ann Slater, says her organisation supports Ontario's willingness to take what she calls a precautionary approach to protecting pollinator biodiversity.

The NFU Ontario's full submission on the province's pollinator health proposals are posted on the NFU website - www.nfu.ca.
