Ontario Beekeepers National Membership 'Discontinued'

The Ontario Beekeepers Association has had it's membership in the Canadian Honey Council 'discontinued'

A council spokesman says the OBA defaulted on it's membership dues.

The council notified the Ontario group by letter on Monday that it's membership was being discontinued.

Council Executive Director Rod Scarlett confirmed the OBA has expressed some concerns about conflicts of interest in the national organisation.

However, Scarlett says those concerns have been dealt with - and rejected - by the Council on three different occassions.

Although Scarlett would not confirm this, there have been suggestions those perceived conflicts of interest are linked to the OBA's position on pesticides - and, specifically, neonics.

This latest move leaves Ontario beekeepers with no voice at the national level.

Attempts to get a comment from OBA President Tibor Szabo on this situation have so far been unsuccessful.
