Cattle Receipts Help Boost First Quarter Canadian Farm Cash Totals

Farm cash receipts for Canadian farmers were up 4 and a half per cent in the first three months of this year.

Statistics Canada says those receipts totalled 14 point 8 billion dollars.

Livestock receipts were up by 483 million.

That's an 8 point 3 per cent increase over a year ago.

Crop receipts were virtually unchanged at 7 point 9 billion.

According to Statscan, cattle and calf receipts were up 25 and a half per cent while hog receipts were down 12 point 2 per cent.

Here in Ontario, farm cash receipts were down 1 point 2 per cent from the first quarter of 2014.

Ontario one of the four provinces with lower cash receipts in the first quarter.

The others were P-E-I at 4 point 2 per cent, B-C at 2 point 4 per cent and Quebec at 2 point 2 per cent below a year ago.
