New Hay Co-Operative Aiming For Export Markets

A new co-operative is looking at the economic viability of a major double-compacting hay facility in Southern Ontario.

The Ontario Hay and Forage Co-operative wants to increase the value of producers hay and forages by on-farm drying then compaction by the co-operative for export markets.

It's estimated that kind of double-compacting facility would cost between 10 and 15 million dollars.

The co-operative's feasibility study will determine it's viability as well as it's possible size and location.

Fritz Trauttmansdorff is Chair of the co-operative.

He says by producing a more consistently superior product, Ontario hay producers will be able to get access to higher value export markets.

More details on the co-operative will be outlined at the Ontario Forage Council's annual Forage Focus conference coming up in Shakespeare December 15th and in Winchester on the 16th.
