OFA Director On Six By Sixteen Move On-Line

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture's food literacy initiative is going on-line.

The OFA has launched a website - sixbysixteen.me - to help young people learn to make healthy food choices.

Federation Director Pat Jilesen from Bruce County says research suggests making healthy food choices could help reduce health care costs.

"We could save substantial amounts on health care costs if we, ourselves , and as society strategically invest in community-based disease prevention programs, including food literacy and awareness."

He points out Ontario farmers grow and produce over 200 food products which could be part of those healthy food choices.

The OFA's Six By Sixteen initiative wants to teach Ontario teenagers how to plan and prepare six nutritious meals by the time they're 16.

The new website will include videos on how to cook, finding local food and making healthy food choices with Ontario-grown food.
