Canada Has New Animal Disease Outbreak Deals With Several Countries

Canada recently signed three international agreements dealing with animal disease outbreaks.

One of those agreements supports the recognition of zoning for animal disease outbreaks.

That supports the continuation of trade from areas of a country that remain free of any outbreak, implementing other controls to address biosecurity risks.

That deal includes Australia, New Zealand and the U-S.

Another agreement sets up an international animal health emergency reserve.

That reserve will provide participating countries with a supplementary emergency response team in the event of an animal disease outbreak.

That one includes the U-S, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and the U-K.

And the third agreement supports the sharing of a vaccine bank for Foot and Mouth Disease.

Canada, Australia, Mexico, New Zealand and the U-S signed that one.

Canadian federal officials say those three agreements will help maintain safe and fair trade of animals and animal products in the event of animal disease outbreaks.
