New Centre To Help Food System Better Understand Consumers Concerns/Questions

Crystal Mackay thinks the time is right for a new initiative to set benchmarks for communicating with Canadians about food and farming.

Mackay is CEO of Farm & Food Care Canada, which this week launched the Canadian Centre for Food Integrity.

She says the Centre's first research project shows half the population is unsure about our food system and two-thirds want to know more about it.

According to Mackay, that makes it a great time to open up more dialogue and increase opportunities for credible conversations about food in Canada.

The Canadian Centre for Food Integrity will serve as a hub to help the Canadian food system better understand the public's questions and concerns and how to bridge the gap between farm gates and dinner plates.

Mackay argues the industry must be more responsive to questions regarding healthy, affordable food and how it's produced.

While it's a division of Farm & Food Care Canada, the new Centre will also be affiliated with the U-S based Centre for Food Integrity.

The centre's website has more information about its operation and key findings from its first major research project.
