FCC: Canada's Poultry Industry Outlook 'Promising'

Farm Credit Canada economist Leigh Anderson says this country's poultry industry has a rather promising outlook.

That's despite more potential competition from foreign suppliers and in the face of production methods changing because of the new national code of practice.

Anderson is forecasting continued growth in Canadian chicken consumption for the next ten years.

He's predicting an average annual increase in the retail price of chicken of 1 point 7 per cent over the next three years.

And he says Canadian per capita chicken consumption will go up over 6 per cent by 2025 over the consumption average of the past five years.

The FCC economist forecasts Canadian chicken production will increase by 22 per cent over the next ten years over the current five-year average.
