Canadian Beef Cattle Check-off Program Results Positive

The results are in from a study into the Canadian Beef Cattle Check-off program.

The Canadian Beef Cattle Research, Market Development and Promotion Agency says from 2011 to 2014, each dollar invested in research and marketing came back to producers 14 fold.

They note that's up from the 2005-2008 average of 9 to 1.

The study also points out the average cost benefit grew from 2011-14, which indicates an under-investment in research and marketing.

Agency Chair Linda Allison says new goals can change that and further help the beef industry.

She adds it's important to keep looking for different ways to optimize producers' returns.

Melinda German, Agency GM, says the progress made by the Canada Beef and the Research Council will help sustain the industry while meeting the goals of the National Beef Strategy.

She also suggests ongoing studies may be needed to further the investments of the Beef Cattle Check-off program.
