Plowing Competition Gearing Up At IPM

There may be a lot of extra circulars planned for the upcoming International Plowing Match, but with one week to go the Ontario Plowmen's Association is focused solely on the center of the event.

With 7 different plowing categories covering everything from horses and antiques to modern tractor competitions, OPA executive David Murray knows this year's event is as important as ever.

He says there are at least 155 registered plowers ready to take part in next week's competition.

Murray adds it's nice having many other things to do at the IPM for those who aren't into the dirt-turning festivities.

He's hoping many people will come out and spend some money to help make the entire event a success.

As for the committment of the plowers, the OPA exec says they've all put in at least 100 hours to get to this point.

Each competitor needs to take part in at least six competitions to get the required number of points to reach the IPM.

Murray figures each plower has also invested at least a thousand dollars into reaching the IPM.

He adds it's like any hobby -- they do it because they love it.
