CCA Feels Beef Industry Is Well Positioned For Carbon Pricing

With the recent news of a carbon tax coming to Canada, the Canadian Cattlemen's Association feel the beef industry is well prepared to engage in discussions as the carbon laws are laid out.

Beef farmers found some environmentally positive details in the latest National Beef Sustainability Assessment.

Canadian beef was found to have one of the lowest greenhouse gas footprints in the world.

At 12 kg of carbon dioxide per kilogram of live weight, our nation's average effect is less than half of the global average.

Bob Lowe, Chair of the CCA's Environment Committee, says beef farmers want to work with other groups and the government to find appropriate solutions.

The CCA recently recommended in a report the beef industry should continue to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, improve scientific measuring and monitoring, and take part in national and global climate change discussions.
