Pork Industry Gets Funding For New Imaging Technology

One million dollars is coming from the federal government to help the pork industry sell its products.

The funding is for new imaging technology to improve the quality of pork cuts being sold to buyers here and around the globe.

Fonds de recherche et developpement de la production porcine (FRDPP) from Montreal is heading up the project.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada says the hope is to improve the value of each hog by as much as 15 dollars.

New scanning technology will build 3D images, which will be used to map out desirable traits in pigs.

Those that best fit the bill will be selected to populate future generations.

The announcement was made by Parliamentary Secretary Jean-Claude Poissant at the Pork Show in Quebec City.
