Grain Farmers of Ontario had representatives in attendance at the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI) platform conference last week. The aim of SAI Platform is to support the development of sustainable agriculture worldwide.

This is done through a series of activities including building capacity on sustainable agriculture based on research and development activities, and communicating about sustainable agriculture towards food industries as well as all food chain stakeholders.
As the primary global food and drink value chain initiative for sustainable agriculture, SAI platform develops tools and guidance to support global and local sustainable sourcing, and agriculture practices.
The conference from April 24-26 was on “Feeding the World’s Rapidly Growing Urban Population.” The conference provided new insights and brought together Chinese government authorities, international and national agri-food companies, vital financing entities, NGO’s and other stakeholders.
The conference was an opportunity for Grain Farmers of Ontario to collaborate on ideas around feeding the world’s rapidly growing urban population and sustainable agriculture projects.
At Grain Farmers of Ontario our goal is to provide farmer-members the information and resources needed to continue to be economically sustainable while operating in a manner that meets their commitment to the environment and society. To meet this goal, Grain Farmers of Ontario has undertaken a number of sustainability initiatives to ensure we remain a strong competitor in the global marketplace, including involvement with the SAI platform.
