New hatchery in Stratford

The Trillium Hatchery Inc. operation in Stratford is open.

Trillium is a consortium of Ontario farmers and they held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week at their new 70,000 sq ft facility in Stratford’s Wright Business Park.

The new facility, which began construction in 2017, utilizes a new technology, called HatchCare.

It's a system which aims to provide stronger, healthier chicks in an animal-friendly and antibiotic-free production with a superior environment through the entire hatching process. Contractors, engineers and labour have been sourced from Stratford companies throughout the project and the 70,000 square foot facility has seen total investment over $25 million.

The hatchery is expected to employ more than 20 full time staff.

“Trillium Hatchery Inc. is an exciting new venture that will create economic opportunities all across southwestern Ontario. Stratford is an ideal place to locate our new chicken hatchery because it is a city that is committed to both the agriculture and high tech industries - just like Trillium. The City of Stratford is a great partner,” stated Co-founder of Trillium Murray Booy.

City of Stratford Mayor Dan Mathieson said, “I’m very pleased to officially open this innovative new facility and welcome Trillium to our family of agri-businesses. Their footprint here represents a significant investment in both our City and the hatching industry in Canada. They are a perfect fit and demonstrate again our City’s ability to attract innovation-minded companies.”
