Of the 79 food processors getting funding through the Canada Agricultural Partnership, just two are in Midwestern Ontario.
The province sent out a release Thursday morning with a link to the list of approved projects.
ENS Poultry in Wellington County is getting more than $182,000 to buy and install a new vent-stream air chilling system with intelligent drive conveyor control system to improve productivity.
Rootham's Gourmet Preserves Ltd., also in Wellington County, is getting $10,000 to buy and install a water activity meter and metal detector to prevent foreign objects from contaminating their products.
The federal and provincial governments are giving 5.4 million dollars to help food processing businesses increase labour productivity and get better access to markets.
Projects eligible for funding include those implementing technology or other systems to improve food safety; transitioning to automated, advanced manufacturing or robotic processing technology to enhance labour productivity; or developing new products or processes to increase sales.
The release says the partnership between the two governments is a five-year, $3 billion commitment between the Government of Canada and the provinces and territories to support the agri-food and agri-products sectors.
Since June 2018, the release says both the federal and provincial governments have supported 2,500 projects to help farmers, processors, businesses, and sector organizations innovate and grow.
