Barring any surprises over the next two days, Environment Canada says Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent will set a record for the least amount of snowfall recorded in December.
Officials say so far, only trace amounts of snow have been recorded this month.
"In December, it has been milder than last year with almost record-less snow, compared to last winter that was the snowiest winter on record," says Senior Climatologist David Phillips, who adds the rest of the season will have something for everyone. "That back and forth, up and down, all over the place -- a mixed bag of weather with melting and then thawing, then freezing."
The temperature in the area nearly reached a record high on Christmas Eve, climbing into the double digits, but falling short of the 12.6 C (54.7 F) that was recorded in Windsor on December 24, 1982.
Phillips expects every month from now through the rest of winter to have some freezing moments and some thawing or melting conditions.
