NAIAS Attendance Highest In 12 Years

Officials say more people attended this year's North American International Auto Show than in the past 12 years.

A release from the public relations firm Rohatynski-Harlow Public Relations says 808,775 people came through the gates at Detroit's Cobo Centre; an increase of 5,324 over last year. More than 5,000 journalists from 60 countries attended the media preview, and the charity preview raised more than $5.3-million.

Economist David Sowerby at Sonoma State University calculates the economic spinoff to be about $400-million.

More than 700 vehicles were on display and automakers from 49 countries introduced 55 new vehicles, including seven concept cars.
