The challenges that people with Autism face are front and centre across southwestern Ontario today as communities recognize World Autism Awareness Day for the third year in a row.
Chatham-Kent Secondary School student Justin Grainger, whose older brother Dylan has Autism Spectrum Disorder, says in spite of those challenges, he continues to see people taking steps to support people with ASD.
"In the schools particularly, being a student, I have first-hand seen that students, educators and administrators within our public school system have made efforts to show that kids diagnosed with Autism aren't different - they're unique," says Grainger. "There is so much work that could be done and a third annual event is just the start of that."
A number of events are taking place across the region to recognize the day including flag raisings at the Chatham-Kent Civic Centre in Chatham and city hall in Windsor.
