Chatham-Kent-Essex MPP Rick Nicholls has some unanswered questions about the Liberals' plans for hydro and beer.
Nicholls is upset Premier Kathleen Wynne and some of her ministers were absent from yesterday's Question Period, following news the province plans to sell-off some of Hydro One and allow beer sales at grocery stores.
"By law, funds from the sale of Hydro One have to be used to pay down that debt," says Nicholls. "The Liberals have come out and said they're going to change that law and move that money to infrastructure. However, you can bet it's going to be put up here in Toronto."
While Nicholls says he still needs more information regarding beer sales in grocery stores, he's certainly not in favour of increasing beer taxes. "Even before this charge, 44% of the price of a bottle of beer was previously taxed. Now it's even more taxed. Where does it stop? Once again, punishing beer drinkers in Ontario."
