Whether Windsor hit a record low overnight seems to depend on which part of the city you're talking about.
The temperature got down to -2.9 C (26.8 F) overnight. At Windsor's airport, the record goes back to 1971 when it was -1.7 C (28.9 F). However, Environment Canada Meteorologist Peter Kimbell says the record stood strong in Riverside. "In 1874 and 1883, (we got down to) -3.3 C (26.1F) and -3.9 C (25 F). So, yes we broke a record at the airport, but it seems there were a couple of dates back in the 1800s which were a little bit colder."
Windsor also smashed the record for the coldest daytime high on April 23. In 1963, it only got up to 6.7 C (44.1 F), but Windsor's daytime high yesterday was just 4.3 C (40 F).
Numbers for Chatham-Kent were not available, but Kimbell says the temperatures would have been similar.
The normal high for this time of year is 16 C (61 F). While Windsor's expected to warm up some over the weekend and next week, Kimbell says it will remain slightly below normal for the rest of the month.
