No Safety Concerns At Game: Mayor

The Halifax Rainmen claim they left Windsor before the championship game for their safety, but Mayor Drew Dilkens isn't buying that.

"When they raised that as an issue, we made sure there were two off-duty policemen there. The team made sure that there were two additional uniform security guards there," says Dilkens. "That was all communicated to the league, to the ownership and to the team directly and for whatever reason they chose not to come back and finish that game. If security was an issue, those issues were addressed."

Dilkens says Halifax was playing dirty leading up to the forfeiture of Game 7 against the Windsor Express.

"I look at Game 6 where Jamarcus Ellis went up and he did a layup basket, he kind of lost his balance and the other team grabbed his leg and made sure he landed on his back," says Dilkens. "I think of Game 4 in Halifax ... and Liam McMorrow went up and our guy Tony Bennet went up and Liam stomped him and that wasn't called."

After a bet between mayors, Dilkens says a bottle of Canadian Club Whisky is on its way to Halifax, while the mayor there is sending him lobster.
