CK Fire Updates Dispatch Strategy

Chatham-Kent Fire Services is reviewing its fire response strategy for the first time since amalgamation.

Chief Ken Steubing says a lot has changed since then. Contracts have new limitations, and technology has changed how they send out crews. Their computerized dispatch system, as well as mapping data, now make for a more efficient process overall. However, Steubing adds the tech needs to be complimented by real-world advice.

"We've been talking with stakeholders about our routes," says Steubing. "If a previous station used to respond to an area, and the map now says it should be somebody else, we're sitting down with all the people involved to make sure there isn't a bridge that won't take the weight of our firetrucks, or another road that isn't suitable."

Steubing says they hope to have the computerized dispatch system updated with the new data in time for the new year.
