Sting Can't Break Knights Curse

The Sarnia Sting was unable to beat London Sunday afternoon, extending their string of losses to 18 straight against the Knights.

Sting captain Sam Studnicka opened the scoring for the visitors just 2:12 into the first period on a nice feed from Travis Konecny. Rookie Tyler McGregor also picked up a helper on the play.

The game remained 1-0 after one period. London's Matthew Tkachuk tied the game 2:36 into the second for his first of three on the afternoon.

Pavel Zacha notched his 23rd goal of the season with a one timer on the power play from Jakob Chychrun and Konecny. Konecny gave the Sting a 3-1 lead with just over a minute left in the second before Tkachuk scored with 30 seconds left to make it 3-2 heading into the third period.

Tkachuk capped his hat trick with a powerplay goal 14:05 into the third, Brandon Crawley sealed the win about two minutes later.

The game was chippy throughout. The Sting's Devon Paliani fought Owen MacDonald just 41 seconds into the game. Sam Studnicka and Jacob Graves dropped the mitts with seven seconds left in the middle frame.

Sarnia's Charlie Graham made 24 saves on 28 shots while Knights goalie Tyler Parsons stopped 24 of 27 Sting shots.

The Sting is four points back of the West Division leading Windsor Spitfires with a game in hand. The Sting's next game is Wednesday night in Sault St. Marie.
