A Bigger Goal To Meet Higher Demand

The Chatham-Kent YMCA is increasing its annual Strong Kids Campaign goal to meet an increasing need in the community.

Last year's campaign raised $86,000 to help people with membership assistance. This year, they're aiming to take in $110,000.

"We start with last year and ask people to re-up their donations, but we also search for new people," says Fundraising Chair for Chatham-Kent Jim Loyer. "I'm confident that even in this difficult economic environment that we will be able to reach our goal."

Loyer says they need to raise more money because the YMCA doesn't turn anyone away and more people need their help.

"If they come to us and say they need a hand-up, we'll negotiate with them and help them to afford the kinds of membership fees and costs so that they can participate," says Loyer.

The Strong Kids Campaign wraps up at the end of June.
