Broad Dives Into Olympic Trials

Wallaceburg swimmer Madison Broad is taking the first step towards her Olympic dream with Canadian Trials next week.

The 15-year-old Chatham Y Pool Shark will compete in Scarborough to land a spot on the Canadian National Swimming Team. Broad has wanted to be in the Olympics for a while, but her training has only recently gotten harder.

"I felt it when I was around 11 when I made my first national [competition]. Training has become way harder, and very frequent," says Broad.

Pool Shark Head Coach Kyle Pinsonneault says he's seen Broad grow into a top competitor since coming to Chatham-Kent.

"We got her first provincial and national titles, and have seen her grow. She's definitely a unique swimmer that's hard to find. We're set for Olympic trials this year," says Pinsonneault.

Broad will race in the 100m backstroke April 6, and the 200m backstroke April 10.
