Cottagers Unsure Of More Studies

Members of the Rondeau Cotters Association are hoping to get stability out of the latest round of studies being conducted by the province, but their president says it has been a long and arduous journey.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has announced a round of public consultations on the possibility of extending the cottage leases, but President David Colby says it's been done before.

"They received comprehensive comments back in 2010, so instead of acting on those recommendations they put out another call," he says. "This has been studied to death."

Colby says that all additional study does is delay the process.

"I am optimistic there will be a lease extension, I certainly hope the terms will be good, and reasonable," he says.

Colby says cottages have been in harmony with the park for more than 100 years and bulldozing them now would have its own negative ecological effects.
