Vote Tonight For SDH Board Members

The Sydenham District Hospital's (SDH) annual general meeting has a packed agenda and officials are expecting a packed house at the UAW Hall in Wallaceburg.

Shortly after the meeting opens at 5pm this afternoon, members of the hospital corporation will be voting in five board directors.

The corporation has 539 members who can cast a vote.

Eight people have put their names forward to serve as directors -- five of them are seeking re-election.

Once they are elected, the directors will serve staggered terms with two serving three-year terms, two serving two-year terms, and one person serving a one-year term.

Tonight's open meeting will also include a report on the board's vision for health-care in the Wallaceburg area. That report will be presented by members of the Shore Consulting Group out of Toronto who were hired by the SDH board to help them put the document together.

There will be several additional reports including information on letters that the SDH board has received from St. Clair Township and from the Walpole Island First Nation, both of whom are expressing their support for the continuation of an Emergency Services department in Wallaceburg that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

There will also be an opportunity for members of the public to make statements and ask questions during an open microphone session.
