CK Native Completing Medical Residency Back Home

Dr, Shawn Segeren says Chatham was "a pretty easy option," when deciding where to complete his family medicine residency.

Segeren completed his Doctor of Medicine at Western University in May, and will spend the next two years learning from staff at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

"It has a lot of resources, and it's not too small of a hospital, where you won't get that learning experience. It's a perfect size," says Segeren.

Segeren started volunteering at the CKHA when he was 13. He alos completed Schulich's MedQUEST program, returning as an instructor later on. Needless to say, he knows his way around the building.

"I know a lot of faces, and it's great to come back and see those people. I say hi to them walking down the hall and catch up. Everyone's really happy to see someone local taking care of their patients," says Segeren.

He's being joined by another resident, Dr. Travis Trudeau, who is a native of Kamloops, BC.
