Anthony Cirilli's hat trick contributed to a 5-2 victory by the Oshawa Generals over the Windsor Spitfires Sunday night at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa.
The Generals were able to shake off an early Spitfire lead to dominate the contest, outshooting Windsor 34 to 19.
The Spitfires struck first early in the first period from a Cole Carter goal, his fifth of the year and unassisted. Oshawa would tie it up with 14 ticks left in the first period with a Jack Studnicka goal.
Oshawa took the lead with the only goal from either team in the second period. That would be Cirilli's first score of the evening, giving the Generals a 2-1 lead at the second intermission.
The Generals exploded in the third period with two more Cirilli goals, one at 9:47 and the other at 16:53 in the third period. Oshawa's fifth game from Renars Krastenbergs early in the third, that goal would end up being the game winner. Logan Brown provided the other Spitfires goal, his first of the year on the power play at 11:20 gone in the third.
Michael DiPietro was the losing goalie, turning away 29 Oshawa shots.
The loss puts the Spitfires into fourth place in the West Division standings, though just two points behind co-leaders Flint and Sault Ste. Marie. Next up for Windsor is Mississauga, which stops by the WFCU Centre Thursday night.
