Konecny Named To Flyers Roster

Chatham-Kent native Travis Konecny will get a shot to make a name for himself in the NHL.

The 19-year-old from Clachan, Ont. has made the opening night roster for the Philadelphia Flyers and is expected to stay with the team for the full season, foregoing the nine-game trial period that most OHL rookies are subjected to.

Konecny had an impressive pre-season with the Flyers, scoring three goals and adding three assists for six points through six games.

Initial reports indicate he may start the season on the team's second line with Jakub Voracek and Sean Couturier.

In the OHL last season, Konecny put up 101 points through 60 games with the Ottawa 67's and the Sarnia Sting.

Sarnia sent two conditional second round picks in 2021 and 2022 to Ottawa in the trade for Konecny, but the Sting won't have to give them up if Konecny stays with the Flyers for the 2016-2017 NHL season.

The Philadelphia Flyers selected him 24th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
