The St. Clair Catholic District School Board is looking to improve its EQAO scores.
Although students in Grades 3, 6, and 9 seem to be following the same trend seen across the province, the SCCDSB is looking to aim higher.
"We're certainly realizing that we have continued work to do in math," says Superintendent of Education Laura Callaghan. "[Educators] will continue to lay a focus on mathematics as we follow the direction from the ministry with the renewed math strategy."
During Tuesday night's board meeting, trustees spoke to the statistics, comparing St. Clair's EQAO scores to the province's.
By tracking how students do early on in Grades 3 and 6, Callaghan says educators will be able to determine if a student will benefit from the Individualized Education Program (IEP), which will in turn better their success.
"[We're] really getting an idea of where our students are at and what their strengths are," says Callaghan.
She says by looking at a student's strengths and weaker areas they'll be able to cater to that student.
"I think it's really about classroom instruction and using very specific targeted strategies to respond to learners' needs," says Callaghan.
Another strategy the school board will be promoting is the increased use of technology to promote creative and critical thinking.
