Baute Humbled To Be Recognized

Maizex founder and CEO Dave Baute is the 2016 Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce's Agriculturist of the Year.

He says he's humbled by the title and was a little surprised to find out he won.

"I'm not sure who nominated me yet," says Baute with a smile. "Whoever that person is, I'll track them down and give them my thanks."

Baute also knows that it took a team effort to grow his business to this point -- and he's quick to give credit to the people who support him.

"Our company's success is very dependent on the relationship I've had with my wife, Brenda," says Baute. "She's our CFO at the business and has been very supportive over the years in a whole bunch of ways."

Dave and Brenda Baute founded Maizex in 1985.

Since then, the company has grown to be the number four brand in the Canadian hybrid corn market.

Baute will be honoured at the Rural Urban Dinner, which is taking place on November 23, 2016 at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre in Chatham.

The other award winners who will be honoured at the dinner include:

Agriculture Innovator of the Year: Schinkel's Legacy (Tim Schinkel)

Friend of Agriculture Award: Storey Samways Planning Ltd. (David French and Tom Storey)

4H Members of the Year: TBA
