Police Promote Halloween Safety

Area police are breaking down how to make Halloween full of more treats, and less tricks, this year.

Chatham-Kent OPP Constable Jay Denorer starts with the tried-and-true tip of checking all Halloween candy at the end of the night.

"Wait till you get home, and have parents go through it, just to make sure there's nothing in there someone could have tampered with," says Denorer.

Denorer adds parents should accompany their child while they're out Monday night. It's always a good idea to travel in groups, and Denorer says it can be more enjoyable as well.

He has a couple more tips for trick-or-treaters while they travel on area roadways.

"It's starting to get darker earlier now, so make sure you're lit, whether its a flashlight or glowsticks. Make sure there's something on your costumes, maybe some reflective gear," says Denorer.

The sun is expected to set just before 6:30pm on Halloween.
