No Serious Flooding Concerns From Melting Snow

Watch out for slippery banks and cold, fast-moving water in the area.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has issued a safety bulletin for the area -- especially around the Thames River.

LTVCA officials say the warmer-than-normal temperatures on Monday and the rain over the past few days have caused the water levels in the river to rise.

The melting and rising water levels have also caused most of the ice that was built up to flush out of the river. That's causing a small ice jam on the Thames River between Harwich Rd. and Communication Rd., but conservation officials say no flooding is expected as a result.

Local residents are also being urged to take extra caution to avoid the Thames River as well as ditches and streams in the area. The riverbanks are slippery because of the rain and the melting snow and cold, fast-moving water can be dangerous.
