Unlike last year, the Chatham-Kent Salvation Army will not be extending its Kettle Campaign.
As of December 24, the campaign wrapped up with $421,401, just short of the $450,000 goal.
"Last year was an exception because we were so short when we got to Christmas Eve," says Captain Stephanie Watkinson.
The campaign did much better this year, having reached almost 94% of their campaign goal.
"We're very happy with the outcome of the campaign," says Watkinson. "The need is up in our community, which means our donor base decreases because there are less people that are able to donate."
With that in mind, Watkinson says those looking for a 2016 tax receipt have until December 31 to make a donation. Once 2017 starts, those willing to donate can do so at any time.
Donations can be mailed to the Salvation Army's office on Orangewood Blvd. in Chatham or at any of the Salvation Army Thrift stores.
