School Gets Support After Student Was Struck By Car

The Lambton Kent District School Board says the boy who was struck by a car in front of a Chatham school is in their thoughts.

The 8-year-old is a student at Winston Churchill Public School and received non-life threatening head injuries Thursday afternoon.

Public Relations Officer Heather Hughes says psychologists were at the school on Friday to offer support to students and staff and a letter was sent home to parents and guardians providing information about the incident.

"Outlines for parents some of the ways to discuss the incident with their child. If they have any questions or if they're looking for additional supports, it lets parents know what supports are available," says Hughes.

The boy is recovering at Victoria Hospital in London.

Police will release an update on his condition when it's available.

Hughes says the letter encourages parents to talk with their children about the incident and ask questions to get through it.

"Gives the parents some ways to ask questions or inquire as to how their child is coping, " Hughes says.
