A Conservative push to use cameras on school buses to catch and convict drivers who don't stop for flashing buses, has been shot down by the Liberals again.
Chatham-Kent-Essex MPP Rick Nicholls says he'll now try reintroducing his entire bill after unsuccessfully trying to add the bus cameras to the Liberal bill.
"Even enhanced and improved Bill 94 as an amendment, but we had to ask for unanimous consent and without even listening to our reasoning, they just said 'no, we don't want to listen to it, we don't want it in,'" says Nicholls.
The Liberals are instead trying to get cameras in community safety zones and school zones to take pictures of speeder's licence plates.
Nicholls says he's disappointed and accuses the Liberals of trying to steal headlines.
"We said, 'well if you don't want to listen to us then I think we're finished here' and we walked out of committee simply because of their intolerance towards listening to reason," Nicholls says.
Nicholls says he'll now tweak his bill and would love to see it passed before the summer.
"That gives us all summer to educate drivers in Ontario about the importance of not passing school buses when the lights are flashing or you're going to be penalized $490," says Nicholls.
