Local Baller Wants To Play For Team Canada

Bridget Carleton says it's a dream come true.

The Chatham native is in France this week trying to make the Canadian senior women's basketball team and hopes to someday be an Olympian.

She says playing for Team Canada has been her goal ever since she started playing basketball as a little girl.

Carleton says the squad is coming off a weekend of games in Spain and now faces teams from France, Ukraine, and Montenegro this week.

"It's been fun and a good experience. Travelling is great and playing with these girls and these coaches has definitely been a learning experience and it's been great so far," says Carleton, who's due back home by the end of the week.

Carleton says Spain is ranked second in the world, adding that playing against such a high calibre team was a great learning experience.

"It's always good to play the top countries in the world to see how we compare. I'm happy with how I've been playing, I'm getting better everyday which is always a good sign. I'm just excited for the end of the week and to see what we can do in these next three games," Carleton says.

Carleton says it's her unofficial second time around with Team Canada.

"Last summer I got train with the senior team for a bit before they headed out to the Olympics. I got some experience with them and being invited back this time was definitely exciting. Having that experience from last year under my belt helped me out a lot this year in the training process," says Carleton.
