Merlin Man Loves Custom & Old Furniture

A $5,000 loan from Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board is allowing a Merlin man to build his dream.

Mario Bocsan will be making custom furniture and restoring old furniture starting in 2018 from his Merlin shop.

Bocsan started his carpentry and flooring business in Montreal 17 years ago and now wants to expand into refurbishing furniture.

He still runs his 'Mario Flooring and Sawmill' business.

Bocsan is happy to be self-employed in Canada and reconditioning family heirlooms soon.

"I'm going to go ahead and fix furniture, rebuild it and making new stuff. Exactly like people rebuilding old cars, something to turn your head," says Bocsan.

He says saving old treasures is a dream come true.

"The new generation makes stuff to be good for only five to 10 years. Some of the stuff from the old days survives for 40, 50, 60, 80 years, why? They put heart and feeling into what they do," Bocsan says.

Bocsan promises his business will be unique.

"That's what I'm going to try and be soon, doing some art work. Stuff that you don't often see in stores. Here everything is basic. I want to make something fancy likes it's the only one in Chatham," says Bocsan.

Bocsan can be reached at marimoni2006@yahoo.ca or by calling 519-796-7075.
