Fall Arrives Friday

When the season changes, southwestern Ontario will be in the midst of a heat wave, but Environment Canada says there is nothing unusual about the fall ahead.

The agency's forecast nearly matches predictions made earlier this month by the Weather Network.

Fall arrives at 4:02pm Friday.

By this time next week, Environment Canada meteorologist Peter Kimbell says it will feel a lot more like autumn.

"A cold front will come through, let's say Wednesday next week," he says. "So the last weekend of the month -- much cooler weather than what we've been used to. Possible normal conditions actually; the normal high at this time of the year is 21 C (70 F)."

In the meantime, enjoy the heat. Kimbell says as warm as it is though, the region will struggle to break any records this weekend.

"Today [Friday] the record is 32 C (90 F), so we won't break that, but by the weekend, the record is 30.6 C (87 F)," says Kimbell. "We might tie that."

If you look far enough ahead in the seasonal forecast, you will see snow, but Kimbell says it will most likely wait until later in November.

"The average snowfall in October is 0.6 cm, which basically means every few years we get a dusting of snow for Halloween," he says. "November, 5.5 cm."

In London, average snowfall in October is 1.2 cm, and 5.7 cm in November.
