If you crossed the border into Michigan recently and grabbed a bite to eat at the Algonac Flaming Grill, you should contact the Chatham Kent Public Health Unit as soon as possible.
Officials with the Health Unit say anyone who ate at the Algonac Flaming Grill on St. Clair River Dr. in Algonac, Michigan between Friday, October 6, 2017 and Friday, October 20, 2017 may have been exposed to Hepatitis A.
Anyone who ate at that restaurant during that timeframe should contact the Chatham Kent Public Health Unit at 519.355.1071 ext. 5900.
Hepatitis A is a viral liver disease that can cause mild to severe illness. You can catch the virus by eating contaminated food and water or through direct contact with someone who is infected.
The disease is closely associated with unsafe water or food and poor personal hygiene.
Symptoms of Hepatitis A can include fever, loss of appetite, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, dark-coloured urine, and jaundice (a yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes) -- but not everyone who is infected will have all of the symptoms.
