The damages are estimated at $450,000 after a house fire on Duart Rd. Saturday night.
Chatham-Kent fire officials say they were called to the scene at 20323 Duart Rd. just after 10pm Saturday after someone spotted smoke coming from a house there. When firefighters arrived at the scene a few minutes later, they could see flames at the side of the house.
The first crews to arrive from Station 10 in Orford quickly called for more help, so firefighters from Station 11 in Ridgetown responded to the scene as well.
Firefighters were able to confirm that no one was home at the time and managed to extinguish the fire by using jets outside the home while also sending firefighters inside.
No injuries were reported.
Investigators say at this point, they haven't been able to determine what started the fire because of the extent of the damage and the unsafe nature of the scene.
Fire officials are also taking the opportunity to remind the public to install working smoke alarms on every storey of your home as well as outside all sleeping areas. You should test your smoke alarms monthly and replace the batteries twice a year -- when you change your clocks.
