A 46-year-old Belle River man is ringing in the new year on a sour note.
Chatham-Kent OPP say officers have charged him with stunt driving.
Police say a westbound vehicle on Hwy. 401 near Queens Line was clocked going 160 km/hr at around 11:45pm on January 1.
As a result, the Belle River man is scheduled to appear in court on February 7. His vehicle has also been impounded for a week and his driver's licence has been suspended.
Provincial police are also taking the opportunity to remind drivers that going 50km/hr (or more) over the speed limit could result in the following penalties:
- Immediate seven-day licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment
- A $2,000 to $10,000 fine, six demerit points, up to six months jail, up to six years licence suspension for a first conviction (upon conviction)
- Driver's licence suspension of up to ten years for a second conviction within ten years
