The Salvation Army in Chatham-Kent is celebrating the success of this year's Red Kettle Campaign, which surpassed its goal by nearly $11,000.
Captain Karen Holland says the organization's goal was to raise $460,000 and the campaign surpassed that amount by $10,907.15. She says the total amount raised was $470,907.15.
Holland says donations really picked up in the final week of the campaign.
"Just as Christmas gets closer, I find that people are actually thinking more about giving and that type of thing. It was a little scary there for a while when we seemed to be really short... but the community really came through for us," says Holland.
Holland says she is so grateful for the community's support.
"My husband and I just moved here in the summertime and so this is our first Christmas experience here in Chatham-Kent. We are just absolutely blown away with the community's generosity and support of the Salvation Army," says Holland.
Holland says the funds raised during the Red Kettle Campaign will go towards the Salvation Army's many services throughout the year to help families in need in Chatham-Kent.
"Wherever there is a need we try our best to help out," says Holland.
