Heading to Jamaica? Canadian Government Says to Be Safe

If you're planning to escape the cold weather and head to Jamaica, the Government of Canada says to be cautious.

The government has issued a travel advisory for Canadians visiting the Montego Bay area over concerns about the level of crime in the region.

Canadians at resorts in this area are being asked to stay at their resorts and not leave on their own except when traveling to and from the airport. If you are with a tour group, stick to the planned itinerary and don't wander off on your own.

A similar alert has been issued for British citizens traveling to Jamaica, while the United States has had one in place since January 10.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness has declared a state of emergency for St. James Parish, which includes Montego Bay.

The region is enormously popular with tourists from Canada, the US, the UK, and other countries, especially during the winter months.
