Law Enforcement Torch Run Raises $2K

Dozens of people showed up to Kingston Park in Chatham Saturday morning to show support for the Special Olympics.

Chatham-Kent Police Service Constable Jason Herder says the Law Enforcement Torch Run raises awareness and money for Special Olympics Ontario. He says there was a 5K and a 2.5K walk/run.

"I tried doing the run in full uniform, so I did half of it. Turn out wise, we had about 50 people here today. We raised around $2,000, so another great event in the books for Chatham-Kent," he says.

Herder says with the Polar Plunge event that took place in January, the police service has raised over $16,000 so far this year for the Special Olympics and there are still three more fundraising events planned for this year.

He says there will be a car wash and test drive with Chatham Mazda on Wednesday, July 18 from 10am to 2pm.
