CK's Environmental Health Team Moving Locations

Tick identification and drinking water testing services will be moving to the Wish Centre next week.

It was recently announced that the Chatham-Kent Public Health’s Environmental Health team will be relocating to Clinic Services at the Wish Centre on Tuesday. It was previously located at 435 Grand Ave. W in Chatham.

The team helps protect the health of the Chatham-Kent community by investigating physical, chemical, and biological hazards.

The team frequently conducts inspections, surveillance, education, and enforcement activities in areas of:

  • Food safety
  • Safe drinking water
  • Recreational water
  • Rabies control
  • Health hazard prevention
  • Infection control
  • Communicable disease control
Members of the public can visit the Environmental Health team for services including:
  • Dropping off ticks for identification
  • Obtaining free drinking water sample kits
  • Dropping off drinking water samples for testing
CK Public Health says it is important for ticks to be identified, because backlegged ticks are found in parts of the municipality and can spread Lyme disease.

If you own a private well, the Environmental Health team recommends that you test your drinking water for bacteria at least three times a year. You should also test your water after major plumbing work or a flood. Regularly testing your drinking water helps you know whether your water is safe to drink.

Drinking water testing is free. You can pick up water bottles for testing at CK Public Health—Clinic Services at the Wish Centre or at your nearest municipal service centre. It is recommended that samples are submitted within 24 hours of collection.

For more information you can contact CK Public Health—Clinic Services at 519-355-1071 or by email at Ckhealth@chatham-kent.ca.
