A windy weekend created some "phenomenal" waves in Lake Erie according to a conservation officer, but the lack of rain stopped things from getting dangerous.
Jason Homewood is the water resource and regulation technician at the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority.
He recorded the waves in Port Alma and said the video doesn't do it justice.

"It felt like I was watching something on YouTube, the waves were so high," Homewood said. "They were probably 10 or 15 feet up in the air and just rolling in and crashing into the shore. It was amazing."
Homewood said the waves also carried a lot of sand into Rose Beach Line, which blocked drainage outlets. One bridge, which usually has four feet of clearance according to Homewood, only had a couple inches due to sand buildup. He said it would have made for some hazardous conditions had it rained.
"If we get rain it could start overtopping the road," Homewood said. "It gets dammed up and water will start going over the road until the dam breaks. Thankfully we didn't get as much rain as they were forecasting."
